Recordings of the complete works by Bedřich Smetana under the interpretation of Czech pianists

This thesis describes the interpretation of Bedřich Smetana piano works under the interpretation of Věra Řepková, Jan Novotný a Ivan Klánský, interprets who recorded the complete Smetana piano works in the course of the 20th century. Interpretation analysis focuses on the identification and description of the differences in the understanding and performance of the key and most played piano works.
Evaluation of musculoskeletal disorders in pianists

Title: Evaluation of musculoskeletal disorders in pianists Background: Musculoskeletal (MS) disorders are common in pianists. Allsop and Ackland (2010) in their study describe that pianists suffer from MS disorders in 42 %. However, the prevalence of MS disorders differs depending on the region. There has not been done yet any evaluation of prevalence of MS disorders in pianists in Czech republic. This evaluation is crutial to make a comparison of our national results internationally. Furthermore, it is required to establish well-prepared preventional program for starting pianists. Aims: The purpose of this study is to evaluate prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in pianists. Methods: Our data were collected using questionnaire survey. We distributed questionnaires among czech profesional pianists, piano teachers, and piano students by emails who were older than 18. Results: We sent 390 questionnaires by emails and received 78 of them completed. We revealed that the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of all respondents was 72 %. The prevalence was the highest in the group of the age from 18 to 60 reaching 90 %. The most common locality of musculoskeletal disorder was in the forearm. Julia Fischer is today recognised as one of the world's leading interprets. At her young age she has already performed at all the famous concert halls over the world. She has collaborated with many renowned conductors and excellent musicians. In addition to her busy concert schedule Fischer's other prioritized occupations became teaching as well as professional solo piano and playing with a string quartet. Next to her professionaly successful life she manages to be a wife and a mother of two children. I would like to concentrate in my thesis on the period of her studies but also to all the important additional aspects of her musical career.
Alternative methods of treatment of professional diseases of pianists

Play on piano is one-sided movement activity. During this activity is burned our upper body mainly our arms and back. During overworking of particular part can get hurt the playing apparatus. Aim of this work is to map the most common diseases of pianists, to focus on symptoms and causations and mainly to find out options of alternative methods of treatment of professional diseases. Thesis will be focused on a detailed description of two methods – Feldenkrais method and Alexander technique.
The Personality of Pierre-Laurent Aimard And His Influence On Post-war Piano Interpretation

This thesis focuses on the personality of Pierre-Laurent Aimard – a pianist, who enjoys an internationally celebrated career and who is one of the most significant figures in the piano music of the second half of the twentieth century. He is closely linked to composers of Europe’s post-war avant-garde. The goal of the thesis is to depict his artistic life, his thoughts and opinions and their value for a contemporary pianists and also to describe his contribution by closely collaborating with leading composers of post-war era. The thesis also contains an analysis and comparison of Aimard's selected recordings of Gyorgy Ligeti's pieces, which were prepared in personal collaboration with the author.
Life and work of contemporary composer and pianist Adam Skoumal

In this B.A. thesis, life and work of a Czech contemporary composer and pianist Adam Skoumal are discussed.The artist is introduced to its readers from his very musical onset making his way up until now. The thesis focuses on his musical language and style together with the description of his piano, violin, chamber, vocal and even children`s pieces work. Being also a piano virtuoso, his two piano compositions are thoroughly analysed - namely Variations on a folk song and Concerto no. 2 for piano and string orchestra. On these pieces the problematics of contemporary artists writing in traditional style and therefore of unwanted borrowing of older works and also the question of arrangements after being introduced to the public are all demonstrated.
The life of Art Tatum and his importance in the history of jazz

This bachelor's thesis reviews the life and works of jazz pianist Art Tatum, the importance of his work for generations in the past 40s and 50s until now. His musical life and history of Jazz in 30s and 40s are stressed in the thesis. The core of the diploma is describing Tatum's development like a person, and emergence of his individual style playing the piano. The core of the thesis simultaneously analyses the record of composition by the great pianist Fatts Waller ?Ain't Misbehavin'? in Tatum's interpretation. The author of this thesis support his findings with his own compositional approach to the matter.

THE HISTORY OF THE CZECH JAZZ PIANO

The bachelor thesis illustrates the oldest period of jazz in Bohemia with a detailled description of work, life and recordings of the Czech jazz piano players until 1968. The whole period is divided into five parts describing situation in music generally, mentioning important bands and performers, and finally confronts Czech piano players with world jazz music. Everything is documented with analysis of recordings and different piano styles.
